About OmniRemote

I started off on a quest to fill a void in my home automation and build a universal remote that could genuinely connect to all my systems and give me a handheld remote vs just phone and tablet apps. I soon realized I could share this with others and use it to launch a small business to gain some experience in managing a business on my own and maybe pay for some of the debt that comes with launching a business and associated hardware and software.

As an avid Home Assistant enthusiast, I wanted to make sure OmniRemote Iris integrated to that and provided core functionality without cost within the realm of Home Assistant.

As for the bright colors, Purple and Cyan were all my mother wore and the theme was one way for me to honor her life.

I’m Chris and have lived in Minnesota for most of my adult life. I’ve been an automation enthusiast since the early 2000’s when I had to use X10 in my small Bloomington, MN apartment. I then expanded into Insteon, Universal Devices, Zwave, Zigbee and Home Assistant.

Apart from my nerdy side, I also have a career in tech sales which I love, a wonderful dog Kodiak to keep me company and many other hobbies to include carpentry, welding, custom RV building, hunting, fishing, weightlifting, flying. I love to learn and so am always getting into new things.
